5 Fun and Easy Ways to Lose Weight

Are you stuck in a weight loss quagmire, feeling deprived, dispirited and depressed? Your diet seems to be going nowhere, and you're tired of all the self-denial and the tedious workouts. It's so tempting to give up and just live a little - or in other words, eat yourself into oblivion and undo all the good work you've put in so far!

Don't do it! I once regained 40 lbs for exactly that reason. I was feeling deprived and didn't care anymore. I refused to even weigh myself for several months until I finally came to my senses. Then I had to start all over again!

So wait! Before you reach for that cheese burger! There are some surprisingly fun and easy ways to rev up your weight loss, all of which are backed up by scientific evidence.

1. Eat a bigger breakfast!

Strange, but true. A recent study showed that eating a good breakfast will result in you eating less later in the day. Apparently, if you skip breakfast, the brain thinks the body is fasting, so you will be craving high-calorie foods by lunch time.

2. Listen to relaxing music at mealtimes.

What an easy way to lose! A study conducted at Johns Hopkins revealed that music can affect how fast you eat. In the study, people listening to slow music ate three mouthfuls per minute, as opposed to five mouthfuls for people listening to more upbeat music. Eat to slow music, and you will have eaten less by the end of the meal!

3. Go shopping!

You know that any type of activity is good for you. Your exercise doesn't have to come in the form of a boring stint on the treadmill. If you're moving around, that's good. Go dancing, wall climbing, hiking, dog walking, but just stay off the couch and have some fun losing the weight!

4. Sleep more!

Lose weight by sleeping? There have been many so recent studies on sleep behavior and weight control, that this is now an unquestionable fact! If you are sleep deprived, not only will you consume more calories, but your metabolism will also slow down. So re-arrange your bedtime or wake-up time to ensure you get the sleep you need!

5. Watch a horror film!

My favorite weight loss method! It's true! Scientists at the University of Westminster have proven that when you watch a scary movie, your pulse quickens and blood pumps around your body faster, resulting in a boost to your metabolism which will lower your appetite and make you burn more calories. The scarier the movie, the more calories you'll burn, so make it a good one!
